BSNL - Reaching Out

BSNL decided to canvas for Dataone in out Apartment complex today. They offered on the spot connections and spent the whole day under a shamiana with a PC and a laptop demonstrating the connection speeds etc. They also had one of their mobile directory distribution vans here, so quite a few people exchanged old directories for new ones. And pretty much the entire top level staff was down here, including the commercial officer and the SDE. Neato. I was having a chat with them yesterday when they were talking about a "target" for today. Wonder if they achieved the same. What was really good to see was the kind of effort they are willing to put in.

In other news, watched quite a few movies...Enemy of the State, Die Another Day, the ending bits of Catch Me If You Can and some dumb Sunny Deol hindi movie on Star Plus.

Re: re : bsnl reaching out
Hmmm...in that case you need to speak to the Commercial Officer, because they really do take action then. My connection was one of the first few in Shanti Park and happened really fast coz I met the Commercial Officer first up.

Re: re : bsnl reaching out
Why cant you get D1 to any of those phones?

It does not interfere with voice at all, does not keep the line busy, and you can use the phone normally.

Many people taking D1 right now have only one phone line at home.

Re: re : bsnl reaching out
tried that, apparently bsnl gives data one only to phones registered under the owner's name, not under any organisation .the telephones are provided by my dad's office .... so if i have to get D1, i need to take in a new connection .. this was wht the customer service officer told me ...

Re: re : bsnl reaching out
Oh, OK, I get it. That is true, of course, only the phone owner can apply for a D1 connection. Not true that a company owning the phone can't apply. Client of mine has a D1 connection on a company registered phone.

Maybe your dad's office could apply for it?

Re: re : bsnl reaching out
yeah .. tried that ! . .. My dad works with a nationalised bank ,so the process is far too complicated than just asking them to apply on my behalf.. .. finally i gave up and continued with my airtel connection .. and now that i work with airtel ... i c no reason in going for D1 .. [Read it as : i get a discount ;P]

Looks like tha broadband battle is up and running .. atleast in bangalore.

Bsnl does it again, it waits like a patient lion till its hungry.. .and when its ready .. it goes for the kill .. forcing others in the jungle to take notice and try to bring in some sort of competition.

It started off with cellone .. with bsnl "introducing" the concept of free incoming calls and free sms.All the others followed suit, well it had a lot to do with the telecom regulator as well .. but Bsnl won the first round of the battle.
Then comes Dataone! .. which forces all the others to standardize their tarrif plans and lure the customer not by the price tag, but by promising superior service and other "value added services".

As a result of this broadband battle, the smaller players are being swallowed ,which is quite sad.
Three cheers to the broadband war! .. coz there is only one winner here !! .. thats the customer !

Bsnl surely does it again but at whose expense..?? Look at the way the BSNL office operates it is overstaffed,Overcrowded with overaged employess with no time sense.Give the same money (incidentally the share holders money + goverment) to some private player like bharti and we will have the best communication nw's in the world. And BSNL is the only company in the communication seg without any targets.

Cant agree with you more ..
But the point is BSNL is THE main reason for other private players to keep a constant vigil on their pricing.
Bsnl no doubt benifits from its association with the govt, and its total lack of professionalism .. atleast at a micro level...
BTW .. are u on D1 or some other connection ?
