You're planning to join CSI? Why, and how's it going to benefit you? I'm asking because I'd also like to join if it's of any use.

Re:
a) Mainly to open a Chapter in College.
b) I really don't know how....

Also from what I just heard from dad a few minutes ago, I'm planning to ask my college to re-consider. It seems the CSI isn't as active as it used to be anymore...

I am a member of the CSI, but I personally don't think they are of any good to computer “science” students. I wish ACM had active chapters in colleges in India.

Re:
Could you elaborate a little more on why they might not be useful ? I can pass this onto college authorities & maybe force a re-think.

thanks

Re:
Have you ever heard of a computer science journal (or anything of that sort) coming out from the CSI? CSI does have a lot of activities and stuff. I don't know about the other chapters, but the Mumbai chapter is quite active - a lot of events, paper presentations, etc, etc. do take place. But still, it is not the organization to be part of. I mean, it promotes Indian software, etc...the commercial aspects, but it is NO GOOD for anything “computer science”. If you read “CSI Communications” you'll know what I mean.

I just got to know that SNDT (Mumbai) has an ACM student chapter. You should much rather opt for ACM than CSI. ACM is the organization.

Heck, though I don't like the CSI much, I am a part of it :-)
