Sania!!!

Managed to catch one complete match of the US Open 2005, the year's final Grand Slam.

Sania managed to beat Marie 6-4,1-6,6-4. The first set was all Sania's as she played quite well and went ahead before allowing Marie to catch up and then finally took the set . Then the classic "Indian" syndrome set in. Be it Cricket, Hockey or Tennis, we have that awesome talent of taking defeat from the jaws of victory. So she did just that....lost the second set and then came back quite well in the third to wrap up the match. I guess she had a minor thigh strain of some sort, since she was struggling towards the end but she played out the last 4 games or so very well to take the match.

Why did she have to give up adidas in favour of Lotto? *sigh*

Better deal?

Adidas would have thought she's not worth it or something...

Eggjactly!

They must have thought she's going to be India's Kournikova or something like that...and she's proved them all wrong :D

Hmm, she still does have tremendous brand value in India. What else does Adidas want?

I don't think she did when they dropped her?

Was she with Adidas when she went won the Hyd tournament?

This is how I see it : Adidas didn't want to be endorsing someone who would "fizzle" out after a while. They thought she will, as did so many others. She didn't.

Biggest Losers - Adidas :D

Not bad. Her highest was 8 in the WTA. And she won 16 doubles WTA titles...

ok she won NO grand-slam... besides Kornikove has much larger OOMF factor... so does sharapova... and sharapova has a larger GRUNT factor aswell! :)

And well I was referring to the way Kournikova went from Tennis to Fashion blah blah...

who bloddy cares she proved she was good - not the best and once the william-twin-destroyers were here she (and hingis and the bunch) didnt have a chance...

now things are a bit tough but moresmo, capriati and the williams are not at their peak - hopefully by the time they return to their best Sania would have gained strength both - mentally and physically

No, she was a case of so near and yet so far. Everyone will remember Kournikova for her fashion more than her tennis.

Sharapova will be remebered for beating Serena for his maiden Wimbledon title when she was 17.

See the difference? Kournikova could have easily done it as well. But she didn't.

I hope Sania keeps going ahead...

Everyone has priorities... Kournikova reached no. 8 and was until her sabatical, ranked some where in the 20's. She must have realised she could go any further and with the power servers making it good - she opted out before her rankings went down... same with hingis.

Sania - i hope she does better... cant say how far she would go but she has more resilence than an avg indian

Kournikova was ranked 305 in 2003. 35 in 2002.
