Yeah that's what my current MAC address is, & that's why nothing apart from traceroute works. So its not DIAS after all, its my NIC. I'm wondering what are the possible causes for the MAC addy getting cleaned up...& can't come up with any.

Was looking at kalyan's nice experiences with Coke... & decided I'm not drinking any bottled stuff here.

try editing your ifcfg-eth0 file. You can specify the mac address in there using HWADDR or some similar variable. Check the ifup-eth script to find out the actual variable it looks for.

I used to have a MAC card like that. So I put a little line in rc.local which would set the h/w address to something during each boot and would restart the network. ( ifconfig with some options )

Dont ever get the card on the network, I managed to kill many networks without even realising it :D

no need to write code. ifup already has all the required code. all you need to do is add HWADDR=address to ifcfg-eth0 or whatever your network card is.

Re: dude, you scare me
conceded, one line isn't code, but never underestimate the power of shell scripts. Some guy wrote a web server in in ash (running through inetd).
